Crypt Factor

The third Crypt Factor event was attended by over 400 people in the Leeds United Conference Centre at the end of February. It raised funds for St George’s Crypt and surveyors’ charity Lionheart. Three prominent leaders of the property sector, and key supporters of the Crypt, namely Jonathan Morgan of City Living, Richard Lewis of Town Centre Securities and Paula Dillon of Addleshaw Goddard acted as the judging panel. The event was compered by Lee Hayes of Bank of Ireland. This wonderful event has raised over £100,000 between the two charities in its three years of existence.

Contestants from the Yorkshire property industry took part in the competition which was won by Ed Quarty of EC Harris.

Thanks are expressed to all the sponsors, contestants, judges, organisers and donors of raffle prizes (which included a framed guitar donated and signed by the Kaiser Chiefs).

Charity Concert -
A charity concert in aid of St George’s Crypt and Methodist Homes for the Aged took place at St George’s Church, Leeds on Saturday April 18.

The concert featured some outstanding performances by young violinist David Tan, flautist Sam Rayner and Christopher Haynes on piano/organ. They were supported by Leeds-based Amici Singers who sang a number of very enjoyable songs including spirituals, sacred pieces and a jazz motet.

The soloists performed music by Paganini, Telemann, Massenet, Vierne and also the haunting Schindler’s List by John Williams.

The concert was attended by over 150 people and raised over £800 split between the two charities.

‘Undressing’ Mr. Darcy -
On Friday 27th March 2009, 100 of Leeds finest Ladies gathered to have lunch and ‘undress’ that most popular of Jane Austen‘s characters, Mr. Darcy. They enjoyed each other’s company and a 4-course meal of soup, lasagne, dessert and coffee. After the meal they were entertained by a very unique performance by ‘The History Wardrobe’ who gave a detailed insight into the origins and styling of the fashion of a Regency gentleman. As Mr. Darcy took off the many items of his costume he gave a series of short readings relating to each garment. It was not however a ‘Full Monty’ performance. It was tasteful, informative and gave everyone a good laugh. The Ladies left with a smile on their faces and raised a fantastic £2,600 to aid us in our work. Thank you Ladies!

Albert Barnett Edinburgh Marathon 2009

Clive Greenwood, a Housing Officer at Leeds City Council, ran the Edinburgh Marathon and raised the excellent sum of £669 towards Crypt funds (exceeding his target of £500). We are very grateful to Clive for all his efforts on our behalf, and a big thank to all who sponsored him in support of the Crypt.

Craig walks coast to coast in aid of Crypt funds

This was Craig's first venture of this sort for charity and he walked from Robin Hoods Bay over to the Cumbrian coast. Craig has raised £481 for the Crypt through this challenge - and we are extemely grateful for all he has achieved.
