A Purpose Built Workshop for Recovery Seminars and Work-Based Training

A BIG THANK YOU to Burton Roofing merchants Ltd (BRM) who, together with VELUX provided new roof windows for a purpose-built workshop facility, which runs recovery seminars and work-based training for St George’s Crypt clients who are recovering from addictions.

Pope builders who worked on the project, approached BRM to provide the required materials, and because of the importance of the work that the Crypt does in the local community, BRM was happy to assist. They donated the roof windows necessary to provide light for tailored activities that support client recovery, such as furniture restoration.

St George’s Crypt’s Growing rooms project has four 4 bed houses in Leeds, which provide dispersed living to our clients with drug and alcohol addictions who have committed to an 18-month recovery program based on the 12 step recovery model with the aim of getting them back on their feet.

Instead of creating larger hostel type accommodation, the Crypt has found that smaller houses, for groups of four men, are much more effective. The clients are all on a similar journey and can support each other on their recovery.

Recovery involves much more than just having a roof over your head. Social interaction, a purpose in life with meaningful employment, routine and structure are crucial and BRM were delighted to be able to contribute in a small way towards facilities like this, which help struggling individuals build lasting relationships, get back out into the community and become productive members of society.

St George’s Crypt has been in operation since 1930, offering the homeless, shelter, food and support in the heart of the city. We offer 24/7 emergency accommodations at our care centre for men and women who are homeless or sleeping rough. We run St George’s Crypt Preloved charity shops in Armley Town Street, Pudsey Church Lane, Roundhay on Street Lane and we have 2 cafes, one on Armley Town Street and one in Trinity Church, Boar Lane.
