St George’s Crypt, Leeds Rhinos Foundation and St Gemma’s Hospice are partnering up for the 2018 Leeds Big Sleep.
We are inviting business people and supporters to sleep out at the home of Leeds Rhinos – Emerald Headingley Stadium on a cold (almost) winter evening Thursday 29 November 2018 to raise lots of money for our three worthy Leeds charities.
St George’s Crypt has been providing care and support to homeless and vulnerable adults since 1930, offering food, emergency accommodation, activities, addiction recovery and skills training. Working towards a positive future.
St George’s Crypt Team
The Team from St George’s Crypt will join business people and supporters alike to brave the outdoors for a night at Emerald Headingley Stadium on Thursday, November 29. Here are their stories on what inspired them to take part this year.
Chief Executive Officer
I did this last year and said I would do it again…! well here we are being nagged by my team to do my bit, ache, freeze and meet loads of lovely people all making LEEDS a better place for everyone.
At St George’s Crypt We provide emergency accommodation (hot food, clothing and a bed) but we also do much, much more. Through our abstinence programme we work with people who want to change their lives and re-engage with their local communities. Help us to combat poverty, fight disadvantage and make a difference by sponsoring our Leeds Big Sleep please – it is going to be cold….
As one of the organisers of this event its only fair to do what we ask others to do for us. Going to sleep is easy but putting up with the elements is the hard part; hard ground, cold night, wind whistling past ..maybe rain or not, we won’t know til the day. But we get up the next morning and know we have our own bed to go to, unlike many of the homeless and vulnerable people we strive to help.
Three very worthy Leeds charities are coming together this year to raise funds to support some of the city’s most vulnerable people, so please donate what you can
I have worked and volunteered with St George’s Crypt for 2 and a half years, and this will be my first fundraising event! Many of my wonderful volunteers are taking part and encouraged me to join them.
A lot of my friends have done sponsored runs, and other physical challenges, so I will be pushing myself to the limit, and sleeping.
This is to raise awareness and funds for 3 great charities in Leeds, as well as give an insight to the discomfort of sleeping outdoors on a cold night.
At the Crypt we can feed someone a 3 course meal for just £1, so even a small donation would be amazing!
