A Volunteer’s Experience
Just before Christmas 1967, aged 16, I came to spend maybe 3 or 4 days helping out, as one of a few boys brought by our school Chaplain from Monkton Combe School, near Bath, a school with a still-continuing strong Christian culture. (I had come to know Jesus around 14 months before).
That short visit, taking me far and away from my comfortable middle-class life and showing me first-hand the homeless labourer, and the doctor, and others, and the way in which they were being helped, plus the “toy shop” for poor families at Christmas, impacted me profoundly, to this day.
I went on to spend 27 years running a small clothing shop in Clevedon, Somerset, where I live, and was delighted, from time to time over the years, to be able to send some of our stock, and some other clothing where I felt that the Holy Spirit was nudging me, to the crypt. I am thrilled to see that the operation continues, and appears to have grown. Praise God!
